Believe God for Something Great in Your Life

Dear Friend,

I am writing to you from Mount Calvary, Golgotha, the place of the skull, where heaven and earth met and the blood of the Lamb of God flowed.

Jeremiah was called by God but complained that he was only a child and did not know how to speak. He lived in a cave and prophesied from it. He was mocked and persecuted.

It seemed like a little thing, but that cave has another name we all know: Golgotha. You see, what Jeremiah saw as a little thing was the very spot 500 years later that the blood of Jesus would flow.

This letter may seem like a little thing, but it can have eternal significance in your life and the lives of many others.

I was reading in my devotions this morning from 1 Kings 17, and the story of Elijah. The Lord prophesied through him that there would be no rain. Then the Lord instructed Elijah to drink from a brook. God directed the ravens to supply him with food, but eventually the brook dried up.

The word of the Lord was for Elijah to go to Zarephath where he met a widow who was gathering sticks for a fire. Elijah asked her to bring him a little water and a piece of bread. Her response was:

“As the Lord your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”

And Elijah said to her:

“Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son. For thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth’” (1 Kings 17:12-14).

That widow obeyed the command of the prophet even though it made no sense in the natural, and she received an incredible miracle. But then her only son became ill and died. After Elijah prayed, God brought him back to life. Then the woman of God said to Elijah, “Now by this I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is the truth”

(1 Kings 17:24).

When I read those words this morning, the Holy Spirit spoke to me very clearly about the importance of little things.

The letter that I’m writing to you is a little thing. You might even consider your response back to me as a little thing.

But God changes the world with little things. The oil and the flour were little things, but little things brought an enormous miracle to the home of that widow.

When Samuel went to Bethlehem to look for a king, David’s father never invited him to meet with Samuel until the prophet said, “Do you have any more children?” Jesse answered, “There remains the youngest, and there he is, keeping the sheep” (1 Samuel 16:11).

David was considered a little thing, but he was the young man God called Samuel to anoint as the future king of Israel.

David later took food to his brothers. When he brought lunch to them, he realized the entire nation was paralyzed over one man, Goliath, and David needed to defeat him.

King Saul viewed David as a little thing, but David knew God was in the little things, and he defeated the giant by the power of the Lord.

You might feel this letter is a little thing.

You may also feel that writing a check to this ministry, or sending a donation from your credit card is a little thing. But I assure you, it’s not.

God is the God of the little things.

One Christmas, I walked to church through the deep snow because everything I owned had been stolen along with my car, including my clothing and money. I was in Philadelphia, and I was a soldier. It was several miles to the church.

I had $13.25 to my name. That was my net worth.

I had slept the night before at the Salvation Army. I put $10 in the offering at church. That seemed like a little thing. I then walked in the snow all the way back to downtown Philadelphia.

People passed me and wished me a Merry Christmas from their cars, but nobody stopped to give me a ride. When I got to downtown, I wanted to have lunch, but I knew I couldn’t because I didn’t have enough money.

I saw a little sign in the window: bacon and eggs $3.25. That was exactly what I had…not a penny more. I ate bacon and eggs for lunch. I was not discouraged. As I ate my lunch and read my Bible, I read one Scripture that might have seemed like a little thing:

“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit” (1 Corinthians 2:9-10).

I started to weep as I was touched by the Spirit of God over that Scripture.

Then I heard a still, small voice say to me, “Go to Texas, to Southwestern College. You’re going to meet your life partner there.”

I did exactly what the Lord said.

I’ll never forget working on campus. I began in the maintenance department making 35 cents an hour. Yet God answered my prayers and met every need, and He connected me with Carolyn, my future wife, and the next steps of our life of ministry together.

Why am I sharing this with you? Because the ministry of the Jerusalem Prayer Team grew from little things to become a powerful global force in defense of Israel…at a time when Israel is fighting for its life and needs us more than ever. No Christian ministry in Israel’s history has impacted the State of Israel like your ministry.

Everything we’ve done to impact the destiny of this nation prophetically has happened through little things.

I feel the presence of the Holy Spirit as I write to you. The Lord is saying to me, “You are that offering, the flour and the oil that the widow had in her hand.” The widow gave what she had to serve the Lord. God saw her faith and brought to pass astonishing miracles.

I remember like it was yesterday the first offering I received in the mail for our ministry. It was five $20 bills and the envelope said on it, “The Jews, Graham, Texas.” At that time, our ministry was in Graham, Texas, because the evangelist David Wilkerson had given us his property for our ministry.

I looked at the postman and asked, “How did you know to bring it to me? My name and address are not on the envelope.” The postman answered, “Well, it says, ‘The Jews, Graham, Texas.’ There is only one Jew in this town outside of you and your people, and he’s not the Jews; you’re the Jews.” I laughed as I rejoiced over that wonderful offering.

Several months later, the Spirit of God told me to cancel all my meetings, and to go into a season of fasting and prayer, and that He was going to provide a miracle of one million dollars. At that time, one million dollars seemed like a billion dollars. We didn’t even have $100,000 coming in annually, never mind a million. But God gave me a word.

After I fasted and prayed, I went to the bank in town. I told the president of the bank that I wanted to open an account that would have one million dollars, and asked, “How do I set up that kind of account?”

He asked me, “Do you have a million dollars?”

I said, “No, I don’t have it yet. I do have my daughter’s piggy bank money. She gave it to me as the first offering for this project.”

He asked, “Do you believe you’re going to get a million dollars?” I answered yes.

Then he asked, “Do you believe it’s going to happen through prayer?” When I told him it would, he laughed and said, “If that worked, I’d have everybody in this bank on their knees praying. You need to go to a psychiatrist and get some help. You’re not mentally well.”

Sixteen weeks later the miracle happened…we had one million dollars in that bank account. People from all over the nation and throughout the world started sending glorious offerings. Pat Boone sent a gift of $10,000. Pat Robertson sent a gift of $10,000.

Miraculous offerings started coming in and continued until the need was met.

The president of that bank was so moved by this miracle that I had the privilege of leading him to faith in Christ. It all started with my daughter’s piggy bank offering!

Don’t underestimate the power of little things.

Maybe as you have read this letter, you have heard the voice of God in your life, encouraging you to believe Him for a great miracle.

Maybe there is a mountain that needs to be moved. Maybe there is a serious disease that needs to be healed. Maybe there is a financial hardship that needs to be met. Maybe there is a fractured relationship that needs to be restored.

Whatever it is, God can do it!

What I am encouraging you to do today is to step out in faith. Don’t be limited by what you have. God isn’t. You are not too small or insignificant to do something great for Him. You are not too weak to accomplish great exploits for the Kingdom.

Today — right now while this letter is in your hands — I want you to ask God for that miracle you need.

After you have laid it before Him, please share it with me. There is a place below where you can do that.

I am in a special time of prayer and fasting right now for my family, our ministry, and the nation of Israel, and I promise you that I will fervently and diligently agree with you in prayer for God’s power to be displayed in your life in a great way.

And I’m asking you to do something else.

I’m asking you to send a special gift for the Jerusalem Prayer Team. We are standing at a prophetic crossroads in our world right now. The enemies of Israel are working night and day to destroy the Jewish people.

God has raised up this great prayer ministry “for such a time as this.” Your gift today will touch the lives of those who lost loved ones to the terror attacks, those who are homeless, those who are suffering physical and emotional injuries, and so much more.

Your gift will be a voice of help for the Jewish people, telling them that they are not alone.

Will you be part of this vital outreach of love today? Your gift may seem small to you, but when we give what we have to God, He steps in and multiplies it. Please do your part and send your best gift today so that this vital work can continue.

Your ambassador to Jerusalem,

Dr. Mike Evans
