Be the Hands and Feet of Jesus
Dear Friend,
Shalom from your Friends of Zion Center in Jerusalem.
I came back to Israel for the third time in the last two months because the suffering of the Jewish people is so severe and intense.
There is a desperate and urgent need for our help. Let me share their stories with you.
They didn’t have a bomb shelter.
When I was in Israel for Passover last month, I met Adva and Roi Zacharia, who have five children.
Like many of the poor families of Israel, their home did not have a bomb shelter or even a reinforced safe room. Roi was at work, so Adva was home alone with the children when the sirens sounded.
She rushed them to a neighbor’s house who at least did have a safe room, and they got inside just as the first missile struck. She called her children to come closer to her, and just as they did, a second missile hit, shattering windows and sending glass flying right where the children had been just moments before.
They didn’t have a bomb shelter.
I also met Limor and Nir Arusi.
Their home also had no bomb shelter, so they gathered with their children in the innermost room. The first blast collapsed part of the ceiling, and the second destroyed the rest of the home, leaving the family trapped under rubble until a rescue team arrived.
With nowhere else to go, they went to the grandfather’s home in Eshtaol. Two weeks later, it, too, was hit by an Iranian missile and destroyed. Now they are living in a hotel, and the traumatized children refuse to go outside.
They didn’t have a bomb shelter.
Reut Sultan is a single mother of four.
She was raising her children alone after the death of her husband. The second Iranian missile demolished her home. Thankfully, she had been able to get her children to a neighbor’s house, but like so many others whose homes have been destroyed, she has lost everything she owned.
You touched the lives of these precious people and so many others.
You showed them true Christian love in action.
You met their most urgent needs in a powerful and practical way.
But these three stories are just the tip of the iceberg.
There are tens of thousands of families who have lost their homes and possessions. There are hundreds of people who have been killed or injured in Iran’s attacks. There are thousands of poor Holocaust survivors going hungry. There are thousands of IDF soldiers dealing with both physical and emotional injuries.
Hezbollah alone has fired more than 8,000 rockets and missiles into northern and central Israel.
More than 70,000 Israeli’s had to flee their homes because of the constant attacks. Thousands are sleeping in bomb shelters, especially the elderly because it takes them too long to get there if the warning sirens go off at night.
The Jewish people are suffering more today than at any time in the modern history of the Jewish state.
I’ve been on the ground in Israel for every major war in the last 50 years, and I’ve never seen it this bad before.
The scale and scope of the suffering is staggering…and growing by the day.
And we cannot look away. We must act.
I’m asking you today to put clothes on the backs of people who lost all they owned. I’m asking you to put food on the table for people who have nothing to eat. I’m asking you to help house those who have nowhere to live.
I’m asking you to be the hands and feet of Jesus reaching out to His Jewish brothers and sisters in this crisis moment.
