Touch the Lives of Suffering People in Israel Today
Dear Friend,
While I was in Israel, I visited the northern town of Tzfat (Safed), which is the highest town in Israel near the Lebanon border overlooking the Galilee.
The mayor, Yossi Kakon, took me on a tour of the town, and I saw firsthand the homes that had been damaged or destroyed by Hezbollah rockets. Thousands of rockets, drones and missiles have rained down across the Galilee region.
My heart broke when he told me that his daughter — who is in kindergarten — has been forced into the bomb shelter on average twice a day by the demonic attacks of the Jew-haters.
But there is far worse.
There are about 6,000 children in Tzfat (Safed), but only half of them go to schools with adequate bomb shelters. That’s right…3,000 children have nowhere truly safe to go when Hezbollah launches their attacks.
Because they are so close to the border, they only have 30 seconds from the time when the warning sirens go off until the explosions start. That’s not much time to guide a classroom full of children to safety. And there’s no time at all for those who have no place to hide.
We can’t let that go on. We have to act.
I also visited a bomb shelter where a number of elderly Russian Jews are staying full time. In this cramped space, they are sleeping on cots or even on mats on the floor. They cannot leave to go home because their physical mobility is limited, and they cannot be sure of reaching safety in just 30 seconds. So they are literally living in bomb shelters.
Many of these precious people came to Israel with only a single suitcase. Most of them are poor and have no living family members to help care for them.
I saw the pain and doubt and fear in their eyes. I saw “the least of these” suffering.
We can’t let that go on. We have to act.
I’m asking you today to reach out in Christian love to the suffering people of Tzfat (Safed). We can’t help everyone in Israel, but together we can make a huge difference in the city on a hill.
We are working with the mayor to identify the places most in need of bomb shelters. We are working with our teams on the ground to transform the bomb shelters being used by elderly Russian Jews to make them safe, comfortable and a place of hope instead of fear.
But we can’t do it without you. And I’m asking for your help today.
I told my friend the mayor that we would do what we can to help because I believe that your love for God’s Chosen People will move you to respond to this urgent plea for help.
I am praying that every friend and partner will do whatever God leads…and I am confident that if you and our other partners will do that, we will be able to transform the lives of people in Tzfat (Safed).
As I told you, Tzfat (Safed) is the highest city in the Galilee region, I believe it is the “city set on a hill” that Jesus talked about in the Sermon on the Mount.
When He spoke from the Galilee, He could see Tzfat (Safed); it was the highest city in the Galilee.
“A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16).
But today the elevation of Tzfat (Safed) and its proximity to Lebanon are making it a target, and I’m asking you to help us defend the lives of the precious people who live there.
As I’m writing, a plague of missiles have been fired at Northern Israel. A large number of people have been wounded, and some have been killed.
My heart is breaking. To think that so many vulnerable Israelis have no bomb shelter to go to is tragic.
This is so critical right now because as bad as things are, Israel is on the brink of an even more deadly and devastating war with Iran that could start at any moment. We must act now so that this help is in place as quickly as possible.
Mayor Kakon told me that a majority of the people in his town are suffering from PTSD, and it’s no surprise. I heard warning sirens again and again while I was in Israel, and the daily round of attacks weighs on people greatly.
When you send your “Let your light so shine before men,” Holy Spirit-led gift, we will add your name to our special “Light Over Jerusalem” display at your Friends of Zion Center. Everyone who sees it will bless your name and know that they are not alone.
Again and again on this latest trip, I heard people in Israel express the fear and frustration of being abandoned by so much of the world.
They know how the UN, the International Criminal Court, and other organizations are working against them. They see the protests and rallies in support of Hamas taking place across America.
It is up to us to show them the face of true Christian love in action. That’s what I’m asking you to do today, and I pray that you will hear God’s call to comfort His Chosen People and respond.
I’m enclosing a copy of the letter Mayor Yossi Kakon sent me. As you can see, even $250,000 will not fully meet the need, but with your help, we are going to do all that we can.
I am getting ready to return to Israel once again, and I want to take your gift with me. On my recent trip to Israel, nearly 200 Iranian ballistic missiles went over my head, but I do not fear death…I fear disobeying God.
When you send your best gift, a multitude of people in that “city on a hill” will glorify God because of you, just as Jesus said.
We cannot stop all we are doing to help Israel during this war, but we also cannot close our eyes and ears to the cries for help from Tzfat (Safed), the city on a hill.
Your ambassador to Jerusalem,

Dr. Mike Evans
P.S. The cost of new bomb shelters and upgrades to the existing bomb shelters being used by elderly Russian Jews is high, but saving the lives of the innocent is worth it. And of course, we must continue the rest of our outreaches to suffering people across Israel. Please be as generous as you can with your gift today…these precious people are counting on our help. God bless you.
My “Let your light so shine before men,” Holy Spirit-led gift
With your help, the Jerusalem Prayer Team is going to provide bomb shelters for school children in Safed who have nowhere truly safe to go in an attack, and we are going to upgrade the cramped shelters being used by elderly Russian Jews. And we are continuing our work to deliver food to poor Holocaust survivors, house refugees, provide help to the families of those still being held hostage, reach out to the IDF soldiers paying such a heavy price to defend their nation, and so much more. Please be as generous as you can when you send your gift today.
YES, Dr. Evans, I hear God’s voice calling us to comfort His Chosen People and I am saying “YES.” My special gift to touch the lives of suffering people in Israel through the work of the Jerusalem Prayer Team is:1. Choose Your Donation Amount
