A Miracle 45 Years in the Making

Dear Friend,

It was 45 years ago that God directed me to go to Israel for the first time.

I was at a very low point then, suffering from a serious medical condition that made it very difficult for me to speak and minister to others. I even considered leaving the ministry and finding something else to do. I didn’t realize it then, but I was also suffering PTSD from the horrible abuse I suffered at the hands of my father.

But God was about to replace my desert with springs of water that flowed freely. It was in that moment of despair that God directed me to go to Israel…without telling me why. The only thing that I knew for sure is that I was supposed to meet with Prime Minister Menachem Begin. In the natural, that was ridiculous. I didn’t know anyone on his staff, and there was no reason to expect the leader of the Jewish state to meet with a completely unknown minister of the Gospel.

But the Spirit of God had spoken to me through the wonderful promise of Isaiah 43:18-19 about the new thing He was going to do in my life.

“Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”

As I write this letter God is directing me to give it to you as a Word from Him…and one word from God can change your life forever. I know because it happened to me!

In obedience, I sent a fax requesting a meeting and made the trip. Through a series of contacts that could only have been the result of divine intervention, I did meet with Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin in his office on June 30th, my birthday. 

After a few moments of small talk, he asked me, “Why did you come?” I didn’t know. I only knew God had sent me. So I said to him, “Why did I come?” And then he started talking about having issues in his life as if I was his pastor.

About 10 minutes later, he again asked, “Why did you come?” And I repeated the question again, “Why did I come?” Then he told me more about the heart attack he had in which he was vomiting and was very embarrassed. Then he asked me a third time, “Why did you come?” Then I said to him, “Why did I come?” Then he told me about a grandchild who was going through a crisis.

Finally, he looked at me and said, “Don’t repeat the question. Why did you come?” I said, “Mr. Prime Minister, I don’t know! God told me to come, but He didn’t tell me why.” He turned to his secretary and said, “Shake his hand. You have finally met an honest man. He believes God sent him but hasn’t told him why.” Mr. Begin told me when God revealed His purpose to come back and let him know.

July 4th was the anniversary of the death of Yonathan Netanyahu in the daring raid that freed more than 100 Israeli hostages from the airport in Entebbe, Uganda. As I read the story in the newspaper, the Spirit of God led me to go to the family home and express my condolences. 

I knocked on their door — a complete stranger — and Ben Zion Netanyahu invited me to come in for a few minutes. I told him I had seen the story about the anniversary of his son’s death and wanted to offer my condolences. As we talked, Benjamin Netanyahu came into the room. He was deeply grieving the loss of his older brother and hero. Later, I found out that Yoni had taken his place with the special forces so that “Bibi” could finish his advanced education, and he blamed himself for Yoni’s death.

Of course, I didn’t know that at the time. I knew nothing about him. But I asked if I could pray for him before I left. As I prayed, I said, “Jonathan loved David in the Bible. You loved your brother Jonathan. Out of the ashes of your despair will come strength from God, and you will be the prime minister of Israel.”

Benjamin Netanyahu had no connection or interest in politics back then. He was a 29-year-old furniture salesman, and he was stunned by what I said. His father apologized to him in Hebrew (not knowing my mother was Jewish and I understood what he was saying) for letting a “moron” into their house!

When I returned to meet with Prime Minister Begin later that week, I said, “I met the prime minister yesterday.” He said, “You’re mistaken. We met on June 30.” I said, “Not you. Benjamin Netanyahu.” I told Mr. Begin what I had prayed over him, and asked him to give Benjamin Netanyahu his first position in the government.

For years, I didn’t tell “Bibi” that story. When I finally shared it with him, he said, “I don’t know whether to thank you or kick you.” I met with my dear friend again on my recent trip to Israel, and he reiterated to me…for the fifth time…the vital importance of reaching young people.

Support for Israel among young people is dropping as a direct result of an intensive and coordinated attack aimed at turning them against the Jewish state and the Jewish people. And sadly, it is working.

On one of the buildings at your Friends of Zion Center, it says Ambassador Institute. God gave me the vision and told me the State of Israel would become my partner more than a decade ago. I wrote the curriculum…it’s over 800 pages. For more than a decade, I prayed and believed until recently God said, “Now is the time. Make the appeal.” I did, and they said YES.

You are my partner…now Israel is your partner and Israel will match your gift dollar for dollar. This is a MIRACLE.

The Prime Minister of Israel has officially endorsed our Friends of Zion Ambassador Program. He has even agreed to sign the diplomas for those who go through the program and speak at the graduations in Jerusalem! Our vision is for pastors and leaders to become ambassadors to reach the next generation. The youth have turned against Israel. Billions of dollars have been spent by Jew-haters to deceive them, and they have been lied to by universities and social media.

Israel is asking us to bring 1,000 pastors this summer to be commissioned as ambassadors. They believe in it so strongly after seeing the curriculum I wrote and knowing what we’ve accomplished through the decades, that they are going to help underwrite the expenses! That’s right! The government of Israel will invest a dollar for every dollar you give toward this effort. This is truly a miracle!

The launch of this program with the first 1,000 pastors will cost us a little over $1 million. In the natural, that sounds impossible, especially with all of the urgent humanitarian work to help suffering Jewish people, which must continue. The only way we can achieve this is as the Holy Spirit speaks to your heart and the heart of every partner to give a matching fund gift.
